HR and Underwear

December 20, 2010

The Swiss banking firm UBS has issued a 43 page dress code policy… 43 pages!!

Men are told to “Wear only ties that match the bone structure of the face.”

Women “….should not wear shoes that are too tight-fitting as there is nothing worse than a strained smile.”

And both sexes are informed that  “’Our body odour can not be changed. However, we can ensure that it produces only pleasant scents.  Strong breath (garlic, onions, cigarettes) can have a significant impact on communication. It is nevertheless possible to fight bad breath – during the week avoid dishes made with garlic and onions.”  (HR Schoolhouse idea via The Cynical Girl – have a tic tac)

*******

Stereotypical Swiss precision or dress code overkill?  A dress code policy shouldn’t even have to be 43 words, let alone 43 pages.

But if you want to work for UBS, better invest in some flesh-colored underwear.

They should have been this concerned about credit derivative swaps as the economy melted down….talk about misguided.
