What IS HR Talking About?

April 4, 2011

Today we kick off the Louisiana SHRM Conference on Human Resources – that annual event when HR pros from all over the state converge on a convention center to learn about the latest and greatest, grab swag and trade war stories.  We’re taking it up a notch this year as we’ve got Drive thru HR on-site and broadcasting LIVE (!).  I, for one, fully intend to hang out at mission-control with Wempen and Tincup during the show.   In addition, our favorite friend Laurie Ruettimann, author of The Cynical Girl,  is coming to hang with us in one of her favorite environments –  an HR conference.  And among our slew of great speakers we got the one-and-only Mark Stelzner.

So what’s on our collective mind?  What are the big buzz words at this year’s conference?  Let’s take a look at the tag cloud pulling together the titles from all the sessions, shall we? (thanks tagxedo).

So sure, we’ve got compliance popping up there pretty strong.  But I’m particularly gratified to see that we’ll be talking a lot about Management, and Values and Culture.  Those need to be focus areas for HR professionals, because THOSE are the topics around which we need to gather.  We’re about the people – and we need to be driving the bus for our organizations around these topics.

So I’m sorry if you won’t be joining us in beautiful Lafayette, LA for the conference.  But follow along with the twitter hashtag #lashrm11 or #dthr.

And maybe you’ll join us at the 2012 state conference next April when we’ll be back in New Orleans!

Thanks for the blog – Health Warning for HR – get into the trenches and understand the business or you will report to the CFO!!
Please say hi to William Tincup. Thanks for what you do Robin.
P.S. are there “business” i.e. non HR people there.

We all learn from someone who does not do our job @HRMexplorer
