PR….and Me

October 26, 2010

I’m looking forward to attending the Public Relations Association of Louisiana – Baton Rouge chapter lunch meeting today.  I’ve been asked to participate as a member of a panel discussing the topic “Social Media in the Workplace” and am particularly interested in hearing stories/questions from the audience regarding their experiences with their HR and/or IT departments.

While the meeting topic will focus on legal considerations and information for the audience as to items to consider when determining a policy or guidelines for their workplace, I predict it will be a much more even-toned discussion than we sometimes see at HR conferences where the theme is often “scare, scare, scare!”

The PRAL-BR membership includes communication professionals from large corporate entities, government agencies and small entrepreneurial businesses – so this should lead us to an interesting discussion.

Breaking through the echo chamber!

We are a PR firm and we always use social media in order to liase with our clients and on behalf of them. It is a really useful tool, especially when linked in to a Twitter account, because it drives traffic to your page. I definitely think it is the future of PR and when it is all heading. That is why we run a coaching programme, to teach small businesses how to use websites like LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.
